How AutoStore Supports Our Day to Day Work – and How Our Customers Benefit
Here, we offer you a behind‑the‑scenes look at Neoperl and show how our logistics operations, supported by AutoStore, ensure that materials arrive quickly, reliably and efficiently exactly where they are needed.

The demands placed on modern logistics are continuously increasing: shorter delivery times, high availability, expanding product ranges and, at the same time, maximum service quality. To meet these expectations and the requirements of our customers worldwide, Neoperl relies on innovative solutions in logistics. A key element in this approach is AutoStore – an automated storage and order‑picking system that provides noticeable support in our daily work and makes delivery commitments more reliable.
AutoStore was introduced at Neoperl GmbH in Müllheim (Germany) as early as 2018. Neoperl GmbH is the largest production and logistics site within the entire Neoperl Group. The fact that the system has proven itself in everyday operations is also reflected in its continued expansion: AutoStore was already extended in Müllheim in 2020 – and since then, five additional sites around the world have been equipped with the system, marking a clear step toward more efficient and reliable processes worldwide.

AutoStore at a Glance: How the System Works

AutoStore is a highly automated storage and order‑picking system in which goods are stored in stackable containers (bins). These bins are arranged in a compact grid structure and are moved by robots that travel horizontally and vertically on top of the system.
What makes AutoStore special:
  • extremely high storage density
  • goods‑to‑person principle
  • modular and scalable
  • energy‑efficient

What Does the Goods to Person Principle Mean?

Instead of employees walking to the goods, the goods are taken directly to the workstation. The robots retrieve the required bins from the grid and deliver them to a station where picking takes place. This eliminates long walking distances, reduces search time and makes work more predictable and ergonomic.

Why Is AutoStore Energy-Efficient, and Compared to What?

The reference here is a traditional manual warehouse (e.g. shelving aisles with picking routes) or a warehouse with extensive conveyor technology and a high level of continuous operation. AutoStore is energy‑efficient for several reasons, including:
  • the very compact grid (less warehouse space, lighting and heating required per item),
  • robots only move when there are orders to process (no continuous material flow over long distances),
  • short travel distances within the system (goods are moved in a targeted manner inside the grid rather than across large warehouse areas).
AutoStore is particularly well suited to Neoperl because our product range includes a high number of different items, components and small parts – often with many line items per order. This is exactly where a compact, fast and system‑guided warehouse demonstrates its strengths.

Faster, More Ergonomic, More Structured Everyday Work

AutoStore is seamlessly integrated into Neoperl’s existing processes and forms the heart of our internal material flows. Instead of long walking routes and manual searching, AutoStore delivers the required items directly to the workstation according to defined priorities. This results in:
  • shorter picking times
  • more ergonomic workstations
  • reduced physical strain
  • structured, calm workflows
Automation does not replace people; instead, it provides targeted support where efficiency, precision and repeatability are required. In short: where walking distances and searching once dominated the process, today goods arrive at the workstation in a structured and prioritised manner.
One tangible benefit: with AutoStore, we are able to reliably guarantee a delivery time of two hours from order entry to our production – even short‑notice or urgent orders can be handled dependably.

Organisation, Priorities and Performance Data

Our logistics operations follow clearly defined prioritisation rules and ensure a continuous flow of materials. Time‑critical requirements for internal and external customers are fulfilled immediately, without disrupting regular day‑to‑day business. Thanks to transparent processes and digital support, we maintain a clear overview at all times – even with high order volumes or short‑term changes.
Every day, large quantities of material are moved in Müllheim:
  • over 10 million parts per day
  • more than 18,000 active items
For us, AutoStore is much more than technology: it is a stable, scalable building block that supports clear processes and enables reliable operations even under high utilisation.

What Is AutoStore’s Added Value for Neoperl and Our Customers?

The use of AutoStore is not an end in itself – it creates tangible added value for Neoperl and, above all, for our customers. Optimised processes allow us to deliver faster while ensuring a high level of availability, even for complex orders with many line items. The system‑guided processes also lead to more reliable commitments, as planning is stable and priorities are managed transparently. Last but not least, quality improves: wherever processes are standardised and digitally supported, sources of error are reduced and picking becomes more precise overall.
In short: our customers benefit from logistics that are just as reliable as Neoperl products themselves.
With AutoStore, we combine modern technology with experience, quality and responsibility – for efficient processes, relief in everyday work and reliable supply chains, today and in the future.
