Check valves for high back pressure loads
NEOPERL check valves for high back pressure loads (e.g. for thermostatic and touchless faucets) are uniquely designed. The special feature of these applications: the actual shut-off valve is located downstream of the mixing chamber. Check valves must therefore be installed on the inlet side to prevent cross-over flow between the hot and cold water supply.
Product finderContact
In faucets that have the shut-off valve downstream of the mixing chamber, there is a risk that the enclosed water volume between the shut-off and the check valve cannot expand under the influence of external temperature.
This may be caused by high ambient temperatures, heated faucet bodies or an adjacent hot water circulation. As a consequence, the pressure in the closed mixing chamber increases significantly and can lead to damage to the check valve or the shut-off valve.

Solutions

To prevent this, there are special check valves for thermostatic faucets and touchless faucets:
  • They are designed for significantly higher pressure loads than models for conventional use. According to EN 13959, standard check valves must be able to withstand a back pressure of up to 16 bar.
  • They are structurally compatible with the standard models.
  • They fulfill the requirements of all relevant approvals.

Selection criteria

Please note that the following information refers to the product range for our OEM/manufacturer customers. For more details, as well as information on worldwide approvals, please see the product listing. To refine your selection, please use the following points as filters.
  • Bore diameter: The shape of the check valve and the outer diameter determine the diameter of the mounting bore. These dimensions are essential to ensure precise installation in the bore.
  • Flow rate: Instead of a specific value, there is a flow rate range in liters per second (l/s) for each model.
  • Design: The check valves are available in an open or closed design. The open models are available with or without snap-fit tabs, depending on the installation situation.

GF valves with glass fiber reinforcement

GF valves with glass fiber reinforcement

Check valves with a glass fiber reinforced plunger are much more resistant to high back pressure loads. They will not sustain damage, but other faucet components remain exposed to the high pressure.
PR check valves with integral pressure-relief valve

PR check valves with integral pressure-relief valve

These check valves are the only version that counteract the pressure increase and protect all faucet components from excess pressure. Different sizes and designs are available.

How the PR models with integral pressure-relief valve work

To protect the faucet from the high pressure load, a small spring-loaded ball in the check valve plunger opens the valve slightly against the flow direction at a high back pressure of 16-25 bar (approx. 232 to 362.6 psi). This allows a few drops of water to escape and prevents a critical pressure increase.
Like a conventional check valve, the PR check valve meets all the requirements of DIN EN 13959.
