Is there a Thread Standard for faucet aerators?
threads.jpg Two main aerator sizes are used in North America: Regular and Small (also referred to as Junior). Both sizes are available in male and female housings. The threads used in these housings are industry standards:

Regular male : 15/16”-27 UNS-2B
Regular female : 55/64”-27 UNS-2B
Small male : 13/16”-27 UNS-2B
Small female : 3/4”-27 UNS-2B

Regular size aerators are most common (probably over 90% of all fittings) and sometimes come in dual thread housings (male + female) to facilitate the choice of replacement parts. Both Regular and Small size aerators are usually available from Plumbing Wholesalers carrying replacement parts.

In addition to these four major thread sizes you may also encounter:

  • Metric thread housings, male (24x1) or female (22x1),
  • Tub filler spouts threaded for Metric 28x1 housings,
  • New designs of lavatory and bar faucets equipped with NEOPERL’s new Tom Thumb aerators coming in Metric threaded male (16x1) or female (18x1) housings,
  • Custom thread housings from various faucet manufacturers (OEM).
For replacement parts in these special threads contact your local Plumbing Wholesaler or the manufacturer of your faucet.
