Is there a way to improve the stream quality of my faucet?
Before-after2-2.jpg If the stream from your faucet is sluggish, your aerator probably needs being cleaned. Minerals or dirt particles in the water (sand, rubber and metallic debris from pipes) can build up on the dome screen of your aerator or into the outlet screens and disrupt the stream.

In case of heavy mineral deposits or if component parts of the aerator are damaged (the outlet screens in particular) it is probably time to replace the aerator. If dirt accumulation is the cause of your stream problems here is how the aerator can be cleaned:

  • Unscrew the aerator from the spout end,
  • Separate the plastic aerator insert from the chrome plated housing and washer,
  • Flush all the parts with water,
  • Clean the outlet screen with a brush and soapy water if necessary (when particles are stuck in the wire-mesh or honeycomb screen),
  • Place the aerator insert back into its housing with the washer on top,
  • Clean the threads on your faucets with a wet paper towel to remove debris and facilitate re-assembly,
  • Screw the aerator assembly back to the faucet,
  • Turn the faucet on to flush for a minute.

If this did not work you probably need a new faucet aerator!
